In Celtic mythology, the Otherworld - Annwn - is the realm of the deities & possibly also of the dead. It's a supernatural realm of everlasting youth, beauty, health, abundance & joy; so close to ours but on the other side of the veil. Magic mist, sudden changes in the weather, or the appearance of divine beings or unusual animals signal that you're close to that it. This is what popping through that veil could look like; welcoming & mysterious; a twinge of danger.
